City of York
Wich. Rambler(1945)

Orginally named in Germany as"Direktor Benschop" As it was bred during World War II in Germany in order for it to be accepted in North America the releasing nursery deemed it necessary to change the name - so it became "City of York." A very beautiful climber/rambler as you can get right down to the glossy deep green foliage! Large clusters of semi-double creamy white flowers are somewhat cupped in shape. The prominent golden centers makes it almost look yellow. Lovely fragrance. Vigorous long arching, pliable canes can grow 10' at one time. This does very well in semi-shade and perhaps keeps its colour best in this condition. It's blooming period is for three -four weeks in mid July with great profusion. Hardy to zone 4b
