| A seedling of Henry Kelsey from Radler of the U.S.- the creator of “Knock Out”. Outstanding red, fully double 3-4” flowers born in small clusters on strong, well thorned canes. Healthy, vigorous burgundy new foliage. We have grown this rose in our trial gardens for three years now and have found it to be fairly hardy as a climber. We have had about half of the five foot tall canes experience dieback the first year- hardly any year two and none last year. If you wish to have it grow very tall then it will need protection in zones 5 and below. It makes a great low climber if simply left alone! Repeats very well. It has an ARS rating of 7.7. |

Things to note about hardiness. Zone numbers are only a guideline and there are many things come into play that make them either higher or lower. If you are unsure what your zone is you can check our Canadian Zone Map in our planting section. This will give you a base to go from. The best thing to do is to find gardeners growing roses nearby in your community or find a local gardening club. The Canadian Rose Society can surely help. Their address is in our links page. Hardiness doesn't necessarily mean that the plant will have no winter kill or dieback over winter, it mostly means that you should not loose the plant by dying due to too severe temperatures. All Explorer roses bloom on new wood so no matter how much dieback you might get you will get blooms on this seasons wood. Pretty well all the above roses will have some dieback if planted on the lowest zone given. |
