Rosa rugosa "Alba"
These are the wild roses we see all along the sandy seashores of the maritime provinces. Some are pinkrugosa "rubra" and
some are white - rugosa "alba". Both have large, single flowers in clusters and are very fragrant. Foliage is very rugose and
healthy.
You can't get a hardier rose anywhere! These wonderful roses need well drained soil with lots of organic matter added.
Water them well until they are established then just in times of drought. They love manure and kelp meal topdressed every
spring. Stay away from comercial fertilizers as their leaves will burn very readily. They grow about 4' tall and sucker
readily to 6' or more wide. They make wonderful medium ghight hedges and also are great for banks to prevent soil from
eroding. They also reproduce readily from seeds born in very large, red hips. These hips make wonderful fall and winter
interest. Zone 2b.
